Episcopal Identity
Teaching Values
“I pledge to myself on this day to try to be kind in every way, to every person, big and small, I will help them if they fall. When I love myself and others too, that is the best that I can do.”
Pre-School Daily Pledge
Kindness
When you visit one of our classrooms, we hope that you will see a pair of children willingly taking turns, or several children reaching out to console an upset classmate, or a couple of children negotiating a difference of opinion.
We believe that teaching relational skills is the most important thing that we do. We actively try to teach our children how to voice their own needs in a constructive way, how to accommodate someone else, and how to care for each other.
When the classroom is a kind and gentle place, when the children are inclusive, playing happily with each other and beginning to be able to resolve differences, we have done our job well.
inclusivity
As part of our Episcopal tradition, we value difference and believe that God’s light shines through every child. We welcome children of all races, creeds, ethnicities and religious beliefs, or those who practice no faith tradition at all. In addition, we welcome children of different academic and physical ability. We meet our children where they are, recognizing that every child develops differently.
Most importantly, we strive to build a classroom culture where the children accept and embrace each other’s differences.
service
Service is an important way to link our preschool to the broader Wilmington community. Throughout the year, we provide multiple opportunities to give to others. We collect food for food pantries at Thanksgiving, presents for children at Christmas, and run clothing drives during the spring.
One of our favorite events is our “St Jude Trike-a-Thon.” This event attracts both current students and alumni as we raise money for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
